MICRODYN-NADIR, a leading global membrane manufacturer, announced their plans to expand their presence in Asia and focus on the ever-growing membrane market in China. As part of the strategy, they are relocating their Austin, Texas, production facility to Kunshan, China, where their parent company – MANN+HUMMEL – has recently added a facility.
“China is the largest and fastest growing market for membranes. By relocating some of our production to this market, we can better serve our customers and continue to grow our business to meet their needs,” said Walter Lamparter, CEO of MICRODYN-NADIR.
MICRODYN-NADIR operates as the water business unit of the Life Sciences & Environment (LS&E) segment of MANN+HUMMEL, a global filtration leader. Their focus on China and investment in the market allows MICRODYN-NADIR to grow their share of the membrane marketplace and create innovative products.
The company produces MICRODYN BIO-CEL® MBR modules in the Austin location – as well as in Wiesbaden, Germany – using state-of-the-art automated manufacturing equipment. They will begin the relocation process of the equipment in July, stopping production in Austin as early as the end of June. The Texas facility is expected to close by the end of July.
MICRODYN-NADIR will continue to sell and support BIO-CEL MBR modules in North America, both in municipal and industrial applications. “We have strong partners in North America who we will continue to work closely with,” Lamparter stated. “Customers in North America will be supplied from the facility in Wiesbaden.” Wiesbaden will continue to produce the modules to support customers outside of Asia. The move from Austin to Kunshan will facilitate improved service levels for Asian customers and add to the local economy.
“Kunshan is a great location, near Shanghai, and we’re excited to join the community there,” said Lamparter.
